The best notch apps for MacBook in 2026
Short answer: for most people the best free notch app is boring.notch (if you accept its unsigned install) or Atoll (notarized, more features). The most polished paid app is Alcove (US$13.99). Pick NotchNook for Intel Macs and to-dos, Droppy for files and extensions, DynamicLake Pro for notifications and calls, MediaMate if you only want better volume and brightness pop-ups, and Ledge (mine) for a free, quiet, privacy-first app on macOS 26.

Do they work on macOS 26 Tahoe?
macOS 26 changed how the system draws its own volume pop-up and how apps read what is playing, and several notch apps needed fixes. What each developer has published:
- Alcove: 1.5.0 (January 2026) "Reworked Alcove to fully match Tahoe style", plus later Tahoe fixes.
- NotchNook: its FAQ says it runs on macOS 14.6 or later, "including macOS 26 Tahoe".
- Atoll: several fixes for macOS 26.x in its 2.x releases, including the brightness HUD on 26.5.
- DynamicLake Pro: "Full support for macOS 26.3" (1.8) and "macOS 26.5" (1.9).
- Droppy: fixes such as "Now Playing metadata coming back empty on macOS Tahoe 26.5" (14.0.4).
- MediaMate: 3.8.0 (September 2025) "adds support for macOS 26".
- MewNotch: 1.1.0 "Improved stability, especially for macOS Tahoe users".
- boring.notch: no stable release since 2.7.3 (November 2025); an issue titled "Apple Music media source not working after updating to macOS 26" was still open in October 2026. The 2.8 release candidates are where new work is landing.
- Ledge: built for macOS 26 and requires it.
How I chose
I included apps that are actively distributed and turn the notch into a live area (music, calendar, HUDs), and left out apps that only hide the notch (such as TopNotch) or only hold files (such as NotchDrop). Every fact links to the developer's own site, repository or changelog. I make Ledge; it is listed where it fits, not first.
